About this case

Attorney General Mayes announced that Arizona and 34 other states settled with Hyundai and Kia over millions of vehicles sold without industry-standard anti-theft technology, which led to widespread thefts and public-safety risks. The settlement requires engine immobilizers on all future U.S. vehicles; free zinc-reinforced ignition cylinder protectors for eligible owners/lessees; up to $4.5 million in restitution to eligible consumers for theft-related damage; and $4.5 million paid to the states to offset investigation costs. Mayes said the agreement forces the companies to remedy the defect, compensate consumers where possible, and prevent recurrence.
