About this case
The complaint alleges that the NCAA and its member institutions enacted Division I Bylaw 11.7.6, designating certain positions as “Volunteer Coaches” and barring payment or benefits from 1992 through July 1, 2023. Plaintiffs assert this constituted an unlawful wage‑fixing conspiracy under Section 1 of the Sherman Act that injured those who served in that capacity during the class period. The NCAA disputes liability, claims it has viable defenses, and argues plaintiffs would have recovered nothing at trial or on appeal. The court has made no ruling. After mediation, the parties agreed to a settlement that, if approved, would permit eligible class members who submit timely, valid claims to obtain compensation. Class Representatives and Class Counsel endorse the settlement as in the class’s best interest.
