About this case
Consumers filed a class-action antitrust suit alleging major beef packers—JBS, Cargill, National Beef, and Tyson Foods—colluded to reduce beef supply and elevate prices. Plaintiffs say the companies adopted a market-allocation scheme and stopped competing for market share to increase profit margins and consumer prices. Tyson (Tyson Foods, Inc.; Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc.) and Cargill (Cargill, Inc.; Cargill Meat Solutions Corp.) settled for $87.5 million ($55M Tyson; $32.5M Cargill) and agreed to certain non-monetary relief.
