About this case

Lieff Cabraser represents plaintiffs in a class action against the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC) and its retirement-plan managers, alleging AMEC failed to monitor Rev. Dr. Jerome Harris for about 20 years. Plaintiffs claim Harris began a scheme in 2001 to embezzle plan funds, creating businesses with co-conspirators, and that $80–$90 million in assets are unaccounted for. Our firm is on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the MDL. In August 2025 the court approved a partial $60 million class settlement with certain defendants, including the Church; trial against remaining defendants is set for April 2026.
