On Sept. 30, 2019, Theodore J. Leopold (court‑appointed Lead Counsel and PSC Chair) and Cohen Milstein filed a consolidated class action against GM for consumers in 30+ states alleging breach of warranty and deceptive practices regarding defective 8‑speed transmissions (8L90, 8L45) in 2015–2019 vehicles. Plaintiffs allege these transmissions cause hesitation and violent shudders/jerks from internal transmission/torque‑converter failures that circulate metal debris, producing progressive damage, safety risks, and diminished vehicle value. They allege GM knew, issuing 13 TSBs since 2015 that recommend remedies up to transmission replacement.
