About this case

Colgate-Palmolive agreed to a $2.9 million class settlement over allegations it misrepresented the safety and quality of Tom’s of Maine toothpaste. The agreement covers purchases from Nov. 21, 2020 through Mar. 6, 2026. Plaintiffs assert an FDA inspection found CGMP violations while the brand was promoted as a natural alternative. Colgate denies liability. With receipts, consumers may claim refunds for up to three items; without receipts, they may receive a payment equal to one product’s average price. If approved claims exceed available funds, payments will be reduced pro rata; remaining funds will go to Equal Justice Works. Opt-out/objection deadline: July 6, 2026. Final approval hearing: Sept. 10, 2026.
