About this case

Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Motor America, Kia Corporation, Kia America, Hyundai Mobis Co., Ltd., and Mobis Parts America agreed to a proposed class settlement in In re: ZF‑TRW Airbag Control Units Products Liability Litigation, No. 2:19‑ml‑02905‑JAK. The complaint alleges certain Hyundai and Kia vehicles contain ZF‑TRW airbag control units prone to electrical overstress that can prevent airbag or safety‑system deployment; defendants deny the claims and the Court has not ruled. The Class includes current or former U.S. owners or lessees of affected vehicles as of April 14, 2025; eligibility is VIN‑based. The settlement provides $62,100,100 to fund recall‑related reimbursements; residual payments up to $350 for recalled vehicles and $150 for unrecalled vehicles for claimants; a 10‑year warranty on parts installed under the recalls (from the Preliminary Approval Order); an inspection program; outreach to increase remedy completion; and future rental/loaner reimbursement and outreach programs.
