About this case

PFAS are persistent, toxic man-made chemicals used in many products and in AFFF firefighting foam; they contaminated SCWA’s Long Island drinking water. PFAS can disrupt hormones, reproduction, immunity, and increase cancer risk. In November 2017 SCWA sued 3M, Buckeye Fire Equipment, Chemguard, Tyco Fire Products LP, and National Foam in the Eastern District of New York, alleging the defendants knew AFFF would contaminate wells and seeking remediation costs. The case was consolidated into MDL No. 2873 (In Re AFFF) before Judge Richard Gergel on December 7, 2018. Hausfeld attorneys serve on MDL committees. Claims against 3M and DuPont survived motions and Daubert challenges and settled for $12.5 billion and $1.185 billion, respectively. The MDL continues against remaining defendants.
