Studies reportedly found initial device testing failed to account for skin-tone variation, causing devices to show falsely safe oxygen levels—so-called “hidden” hypoxemia—which can lead to misdiagnosis and death if untreated. The firm is probing whether consumer ads claiming accuracy are false or misleading for people of color.
